1.  System Requirements

Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and XML are used as a means of communication between ProblemTracker and the external application using the ProblemTracker Software Development Kit (SDK) to create new records by calling the ProblemTracker Application Programming Interface (API). The ProblemTracker SDK requires particular components (listed below) to be installed on the ProblemTracker server (web server machine where ProblemTracker or ProblemTracker Enterprise Edition is installed) and the client (the machine where the external application and ProblemTracker SDK are installed).

A.  ProblemTracker Server Requirements


The following components must be installed on the web server machine.

  • ProblemTracker 5.5
    ProblemTracker or ProblemTracker Enterprise Edition version 5.5 (or a subsequent maintenance release such as 5.5.1, 5.5.2, etc.) is required for use of the SDK.
  • Operating System
    Windows 2000 Server is required for use of the SDK.
  • SOAP Interface
    Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0 must be installed on the machine where ProblemTracker is installed. To download this component, browse to the Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0 Download Page.

    Microsoft WinHTTP 5.1 and Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 4.0 are included when SOAP Toolkit 3.0 is installed.

  • Windows Installer
    Windows Installer 2.0 is required to install SOAP. If you have Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or newer, you already have Windows Installer 2.0 installed. When installing SOAP, you will be prompted if you do not have the appropriate Windows Installer version. To download this component if needed, browse to the Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 Download Page for Windows 2000.
  • Web Browser
    Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer is required for installation of Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0. To download the latest version of Internet Explorer, browse to the Microsoft Internet Explorer Download Page.

B.  ProblemTracker Client Requirements


The ProblemTracker client is the machine where the external application calling the SDK is located. If the external application is located on the same machine where ProblemTracker is installed, the only additional requirement beyond the ProblemTracker Server Requirements above is the installation of the SDK itself.

  • ProblemTracker SDK 5.5
    The ProblemTracker SDK version 5.5 must be installed on the same machine as the client application which will use the API to communicate with the ProblemTracker Server. It does not need to be installed on the ProblemTracker Server machine.

  • Operating System
    Any of the following operating systems may be used on the client:
    • Windows XP
    • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1 or newer
    • Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or newer
    • Windows 98
    • Windows ME
  • SOAP Interface
    Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0 must be installed on the machine where the external application resides. To download this component, browse to the Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0 Download Page.

    When installing the SOAP Toolkit on the client machine only the following components are required to be installed:

    • ISAPI Listener
    • Microsoft XML Parser

    Microsoft WinHTTP 5.1 and Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 4.0 are included when SOAP Toolkit 3.0 is installed.

  • Windows Installer

    Windows Installer 2.0 is required to install SOAP. If you have Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or newer, you already have Windows Installer 2.0 installed. When installing SOAP, you will be prompted if you do not have the appropriate Windows Installer version. To download this component if needed, browse to the Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 Download Page for Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 Download Page for Windows 98 and ME.

  • Web Browser

    Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer is required for installation of Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0. To download the latest version of Internet Explorer, browse to the Microsoft Internet Explorer Download Page.

2.  Installation Instructions

  1. Install ProblemTracker SDK 5.5 on the same machine as the external application which will be adding records to ProblemTracker. To do this, login to the machine where you want SDK to be installed as the local Administrator and then run (double-click from Windows Explorer) ptsdk55.exe (ProblemTracker SDK 5.5).
  2. Continue and complete the installation.
  3. Make sure that the Server and Client requirements (as mentioned above) are met.

3.  ProblemTracker SDK Help

After installing ProblemTracker SDK, you can refer to the system requirements for SDK, enabling and configuring ProblemTracker SDK by reviewing the Help located at:

Start > Programs > NetResults ProblemTracker SDK > ProblemTracker SDK Help

4.  Support
